The quintessential Greenpoint shot

and right on time too!
This clock is one of the few remaining iron cast clocks in NYC. This is Manhattan Avenue and if you had an amphibious vehicle, you could head west until you hit the water, float across and well, run into Manhattan (otherwise known as City Mountain). The fotoUR is particularly fond of this road and would love to be able to speak Polish. It would be twice as fun if he could. For more on Greenpoint (the home of The fotoUR), check out Forgotten-NY's tour of the area.
By the way, there's a link above for a Polish-English translator that might be helpful when ordering pizza or a cup of tea (Napij się kawy).

Back to Greenpoint

and oh so glad for it!
the South is great and all, but honestly, The fotoUR realized (once again) that "once a NYer, always a NYer" is far more than just a catchy cliche. Life continues to move like a tornado up here whether you're here or not! NYC can definitely manage without my input- and that is the most respectable aspect of it all. After eight months of solid city, without even as much as a layover visit to the south, Charleston (for the first time in memory) actually noticably changed. A new bridge was built and there are about 10 too many of everything that seemed like a good idea when I lived there. Such is the case with urbanization....

The LOFTNINJA will be in California for Halloween

The Loft Ninja will be joining the Real Estate Blog Squad in California for a little blogging session around Halloween along with PropertyGrunt and TheRealtyGram-er. Check out the movement in blogland and stay tuned for updates as the LOFTNINJA has a few NEW inventions that he plans to not release quite so easily as in the past. The word of today is "INNOVATION"- repeat after me...

Yet another sign of changing times...

Bridge over 'Bubbled' waters
...definately not the East River- its the Cooper in Charleston and its changing! The fotoUR (originally from this neck of the woods) had a chance to visit the Lowcountry over the weekend and catch what will be one of the last possible glimpses to be gotten of the old Cooper River Bridge. In a few weeks, it will be disassembled and transformed into paperweights and fake reefs. What we have here in the front is what is left of the original railway that ran from the Charleston Naval Yard (on the peninsula) to Mount Pleasant and Sullivans Island.
It shouldn't be hard to notice why this pic deserves bloggin.'
As you can see, three generations of bridges are shown here, with the middle
aged version doomed for the wrecking boat. The new bridge is quite impressive,
but to be honest, The fotoUR prefers the old rickety version (rated a
supposed "6" in a safety on a scale of "100") which he learned how to drive on in a 1964
Vintage VW Beetle. " It was more like a roller coaster, with traffic going in both directions,
leaving little more than 2 feet of room between your rear view mirror and doom," he said.
Sorry fotoUR- looks like you're gonna have to go to Coney Island for roller coasters
from now on.
For more on the new (and old bridges) check out this site

A moment of pause off the coast of Charleston
No sidewalks here! This past weekend, The fotoUR spent some time in a timeless place from his past. About 400 yards from the place where the first shots of the Civil War were fired [Ft. Sumpter, Charleston SC], the clouds and sea took the place of abandoned factories and rezoned rubbish- if not only for the temporary. Today,, it was back to to the urban grind!

This pic, for some reason, reminds The fotoUR of why it is that he take pictures anyway. It sure isn't real estate- that much is for sure. Its because the fotographer has the ability to capture instances is a way that is so subjective, that it would be almost impossible to duplicate.
Take this foto for instance. In a couple of days or weeks, this storefront will have changed, the statues replaced, sold or whatever. The store itself could close down and the owners move to Hong Kong. Whatever the case, its almost a dare -everytime a shot goes off- to duplicate what I created. Its an anthropology of the self.

Space is Virtually, just me
If you really think about it.
I, like you, made it up. Just like I make up time. We trick ourselves into thinking that "space" is "something" out of convenience. It is something- something we made up. I know a few people that have some for rent in Brooklyn, if you like.

Inman News offers familiar views

Seems like Inman New's Real Estate Connect has been quite successful so far, judging from the voluminous articles that have been pumping out in the past few days. The fotoUR regrets not being able to attend the Innovators conference in CA- it would have been great to meet Lockhart Steele of Curbed and the Property Grunt. An article published today pointed out several of the key innovations that The fotoUR, The LoftNinja and I have been implementing in real estate lead generation since early last winter.
If you like, take a look at a few of our other blogs. You'll see the next thing in real estate. I'm sure everyone in California is familiar with our blogs. They have fueled the content for most of the conversations regarding innovations.
Oh yeah, by the way- I have property for sale and rent in NYC.

Podcasting Listings are we? Hmmmm..... sounds MIGHTY familiar, don'tcha think?

Copy Cats
...yep, seems everyone likes to copy the LOFTNINJA. Either that, or The LN must be riding some HIGH frequency psychic wave- on a social surf board made of For Sale By Owner signs. According to Inman News (which The fotoUR loves, by the way), another blog decided to hook their listings up to podcast aggregator-(ie. you can listen to their listings)- Sound Familiar?
Well, it should. The Loft Ninja has been doing this for a little over a week now.....it seems like everything he comes up with, just mysteriously begins to trickle out as Brilliant innovations. First blogs, then RSS feeds, now this....uggg As if this job wasn't stressful enough at times... So now The fotoUR asks you, "How do you deal with copycats?" Comments are requested.

David Byrne would LOVE this one...

Although this was never a Pizza Hut
....it has been tilled and molded by man, nonetheless. The fotoUR couldn't help but to notice that even the plant life trying to re-stake its claim to space around the northside. This artist has quite an interesting idea workin here: an ad-hoc cheering section for mother nature. I don't know about you, but to The fotoUR, this little guy seems pretty damn' inspired!

Not exactly a "get up and go"

but a work of art just the same
...this artist known as JAC is proud of the past- and why shouldn't he be (its the only thing that lasts)? The fotoUR had a chance to catch up with this art-driven history hound over the weekend and felt that the good readers of this fair blog should know of his site. Check out Ancestral Art and lemme know what you think of Mr. JAC's space. You may not find out how to get one of these moustaches, but you'll sure end up with some show-and -tell.
